Stories of a young lady surfer practicing the art of a purist's ride.
Sometimes it's necessary to look just a little closer to find the beauty...
In an ocean sometimes seemingly over-run with neoprene, leashes, sharp edged boards and tempers glides a Lady of The Sea. Mar Lake is a young lady surfer practicing the art of a purist's ride. Mar Lake graces the surfline of the Riviera on occassion where she always rides like a lady and surfs with aloha. Our photographer met Mar Lake recently and invited her to visit our site. As is so often the case when "living aloha"; another circle was completed when Mar Lake later sent the sample of her writing below and invited the Riviera Wave Riders to link to her blog: "Journal from a Lady of The Sea". Mar Lake's writings are pure, humble, whimsical and honest and are a wonderful window into the heart of a true "Lady of the Sea". Mar Lake's musings can be enjoyed at: http://seahersurf.blogspot.com/ Thank-you Mar Lake, it is our honor to include your link and a sample of your writing here...
"With all the rain in the South Bay the surf has been, well, not too surfable. This event leads to many bundled, ocean onlookers. I was visiting Torrance during a lull in the downpour when a friendly face greeted me. One thing that is amazing about surfing is that you can spot any other waverider and brotherly camaraderie immediately brings you together. We began swapping reports and tales when he told me about a local website. He told me it is a friendly place where they post pictures and miscellaneous happenings solely for the fun of it. When I asked for his name and he only said, "The Photographer," handing me a brown paper card, homemade with care which read: "rivierawaveriders.org" and now had a few raindrops to decorate it.
Once home and dry, I curiously followed the link where I struck a treasure buried in the infinite sands of the internet. This nugget, an anthology from a band of amigos, honors the art of surfing, unbiased and positive. Simply, a purity, a love of the ocean. I found this a sunny reminder in the mists of a wet and windy storm. If I could, I would show this site to everyone as a shining example to all who ride the waves, bringing back the brotherly love from one waterman to another".

"The mission at Paddleboard.com is simple: We want to create a unique, organic, inclusive, credible, inspiring, legitimate, hype-free, down-to-earth, straight-talking, entertaining, interactive, intelligent, forward-thinking, big-tented, enlightening, adventure-inducing hub, crafted by and for an international community of people inspired by the ocean. We took the name "Paddleboard.com" because it seems to us that there’s an aesthetic and an ethic that attends paddleboarding - the image of one person, with only his or her arms, headed out to sea - that summed up nicely what we wanted to do."
